Dear Fellows and Members and associate members,

Amidst the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in the world, the Organising Committee led by our two co-chairmen, Dr Man Shui Wah and Dr Chiu Ming Yu, has been organising the 40th Annual Congress of the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association which will be held from 31st October to 1st November this year. The main theme is “Orthopaedics & Traumatology – Current, Future and Beyond”. We face tremendous challenges such as the invitation of overseas speakers and risk of the persistent coronavirus crisis in the coming 6 months. Therefore, the option of an online meeting is the direction under our consideration to minimise the impact of these issues.

Recently, the control of the epidemic in Hong Kong has been very encouraging. I really hope the COVID-19 crisis will be relieved in other parts of the world soon. With commitment and determination, I deeply believe the Organizing Committee will overcome the challenges ahead like our 2019 Annual Congress, so we will be able to enjoy a wonderful congress. In addition to our usual HKOA travelling scholarship, it is my pleasure to announce the commencement of travelling scholarship specifically for young fellows and members who have less than 12 years of service in orthopaedics. Our objective is to provide more support for their further education in orthopaedic surgery. The application deadline is on 24th May 2020.
