Dear fellows, members and associate members,
Every November is a special and busy month to HKOA council and many of our members. The main theme of this year’s HKOA annual congress was Minimally Invasive Orthopedic Surgery. Foot and Ankle Chapter had invited four speakers from Spain, Korea and Taiwan, together with our local experts; to give several lectures on this aspect. We received very positive feedback from most of orthopaedic colleagues about the lectures and the following Sawbone Worhshop on Foot and Ankle Percutaneous Surgery.
Immediately after such event, many of our HKOA members went to attend COA meeting in Zhuhai, China. Unlike previous years, I did not attend this time, instead I flew to Pittsburgh and attended an International Consensus Meeting on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle. The meeting was chaired by our old friend Professor Freddie Fu, co-chaired by Dr John G Kennedy and Dr Richard D Ferkel.. It was a one-and-half-day closed meeting in University of Pittsburgh. In view of lack of consensus in cartilage repair in ankle, we strived to develop one. In the past 1 year, there were 95 foot and ankle surgeons from 25 countries and 6 continents who participated in this project. Finally, we met in Pittsburgh and consensus was reached. The consensus will be published shortly..
After the meeting, I joined a tour organised and guided by Professor Fu to his sports medicine centre and to learn in depth the development of his centre. It was a really fantastic opportunity to know in details the progress made by sports players from injury to treatment to return to sports.
Christmas is coming, I wish all our members joyful holidays with your beloved family and friends.
