Dear fellows and members,
Time flies. It is approaching the end of the dynamic year of 2019. Our Annual Congress is the event of the largest scale in our specialty. The organizing committee faced huge challenge as the socio-political situation evolved. Some of our invited guests could not come. Multiple contingency plans were set up. On Nov 2, tension around HKCEC heightened. Barricades were around. First aiders were providing care to injured people. Fortunately, our congress ran smoothly and it finished early as planned. Speakers and delegates enjoyed a wonderful dinner safely inside HKCEC. We felt blessed with the success of congress despite all uncertainties. How about our beloved city? It is still suffering without a glimpse of light. At the moment of writing, demonstrators and police were wrestling in universities. Tear gas was everywhere, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The situation deteriorated minute by minute. What can we do? Should we take courage and wisdom to tackle the root of the problem? Every citizen should preserve faith to contribute. Our society will recover from the disease, although we cannot predict when it will happen. Just like our HKOA Annual Congress, we prepare for the worst but hope for the best. The best is yet to come.
