Message from Council Member and Chairman of 31st Annual Congress

Dear fellows, members and associate members,

The 31st Annual Congress of the HKOA will be held in the HKCEC from November 19-20 this year. The main theme is on Foot and Ankle Surgery. In additional to overseas speakers such as Prof. C.N. van Dijk, Prof. Beat Hintermann and Prof. Alastair S. Younger from Europe and North America, the renowned Foot and Ankle surgeons from the Mainland are invited. With lectures by our nearby colleagues, we can learn more about the recent status and development of Foot and Ankle Surgery in the Mainland. Some of the lectures will be in Putonghua.

There will be a 2-day Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Workshop from Nov 13-14, 2011 and Foot & Ankle Surgery Commissioned Training Program from Nov 15-18, 2011, organised by HA COC(O&T). Dr SF Yip will announce the details of these programs soon. .

A post-congress Cadaveric Ankle Arthroscopy Workshop will be held on Nov 21, 2011 (Monday). Prof. Alastair S. Younger and local faculties will provide the most updated knowledge and demonstrate the tips and tricks in ankle arthroscopy. Further notice will be sent to you by the workshop Chairman Dr KB Chan at a later stage.

Please do not forget to submit the registration form of the Annual Congress on or before Sept 30, 2011 in order to enjoy the early bird registration rate. Moreover, you are very welcome to join the congress banquet to enjoy the tasty food and unforgettable show with your colleagues.

Association News & Notices Sponsorship for First Asia Pacific Foot and Ankle Society Meeting The first scientific meeting of Asia Pacific Society of Foot and Ankle Surgery will be held in Chongqing, China on 29 to 30th October 2011. HKOA will grant sponsorships to 5 suitable candidates. If you are interested please download the application form from our web site and submit the form with you CV to our Honorary Secretary. The deadline for sponsorship application is 14 September 2011. Please note that this special sponsorship will not be counted as the ordinary HKOA traveling scholarship and marks will not be deducted.   ¡@ Sponsorship for COA meeting 2011 The International Meeting of the Chinese Orthopaedic Association will be held from 1-4 December 2011 at Beijing. As in previous years, HKOA will provide sponsorships for colleagues attending this meeting. Details will be announced later. ¡@ Photos of Mini Dragon Boat Race 2011 The photos of the Mini Dragon Boat Race 2011 have been posted in our web site. Local meetings & conferences ¡@ The 31st HKOA Annual Congress The Annual Congress this year will be held from 19-20th November 2011 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. You can find the first announcement here. The abstract submission has ended and we will inform individual authors about the results. The deadline for early bird registration is 30th September 2011. ¡@ OLC-SABL Spine Workshop This workshop will be held from 29-30th October 2011 at the Orthopaedic Learning Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital, Shatin. Further information. ¡@ Lecture by Association of Private Orthopaedic Surgeons Association of Private Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Osteoporosis Society of Hong Kong will jointly organize a lecture on osteoporosis treatment on 22nd September 2011. Dr Mohammed AL Shaker from Saudi Arabia will be the invited speaker. The venue is Ballroom, 18th floor, The Mira, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The lecture starts at 7pm and dinner starts at 8:30pm.
