Message from Honorary Treasurer and e Editor

Dear fellows, members and associate members,

Do you know currently how many chapters under HKOA ?

Since the establishment of Paediatric Orthopaedic Chapter in 1999, the number of chapters under HKOA continues to grow. With the newly formed Adult Joint Reconstruction Chapter (ARJC), we now have 4 chapters under the umbrella of HKOA. This follows the trend of subspecialization in the field of orthopaedics worldwide.

Our HKOA chapters are very active in knowledge dissemination, introduction of new techniques and promotion of good clinical practices. Besides hosting in the Saturday interhospital meetings, our chapters have organized meetings, seminars and workshops for both trainees and fellows. For example, our ARJC has organized a meeting on DVT prophylaxis in total joint replacement in June this year. ARJC and Sports medicine chapter also jointly organized a lecture and sawbone demonstration on unicompartment total knee replacement in the same month.

Chapters also help to enhance the collaboration between different centres. Our Spine Chapter is going to organize an operative course to improve the surgical skills and knowledge of our young fellows in coming September 2011. Participants will have the opportunities to assist in spine surgery in the centres across the territory. You can find the details in this eNewsletter.

The HKOA Council provides the administrative and financial support for our chapters. Time slots have also been arranged in the HKOA Annual Congress for presentations by the chapters. We also provide a channel for publication of studies through our journal.
